Clean Water Services is looking for a part-time education and outreach staff member to help deliver school education programs and staff community events. The position is 20 hours/week March – August and pays $18/hr.

Job Description

The Government and Public Affairs Program at Clean Water Services is seeking an Outreach Temporary to work an average of 20 hours per week March through August 2015 at an hourly rate of $18.00. Hours are flexible excluding staffing needs at some weekend community events. Email resume and cover letter by 4:00 pm PST on February 12, 2016 to oconnore@cleanwaterservices.org.

Everything we do at Clean Water Services aims to protect public health, while enhancing the natural environment. Combining science and nature, we clean water and return it to the Tualatin River, so it can be used again. More than 560,000 customers enjoy clean water and healthy rivers and streams as a result of our innovative water management solutions, drainage management, water-quality and stream-enhancement projects, habitat protection and more.

This position will perform the following duties:

  • Staff weekend community events and exhibits (majority during July/August)
  • Deliver River Ranger elementary classroom presentation
  • Help coordinate and deliver student education programs
  • Outreach to partners, businesses and community groups
  • Assist with coordinating public meetings, speaking engagements and other special events
  • Assist with management/development of internal communications including writing newsletter articles, taking photographs, and performing background research
  • Prepare and send public information kits
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse people including the general public, Clean Water Services staff, and partner agencies
  • Strong interviewing and research skills
  • Ability to balance multiple tasks and priorities
  • Proven ability to work independently
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

Education and Work Experience

  • Working toward, or have, a BA/BS in journalism, marketing, communications, advertising, public affairs, education or related degree
  • Experience working with the public and students
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and SharePoint preferred
