Rock Creek intersection accessibility improvements: completed summer 2025
The Rock Creek Intersection Project was completed in June 2025, providing major accessibility and safety upgrades at three main intersections along the campus’s central roadway. Developed with input from landscape architects and civil engineers, the project focused on enhancing pedestrian infrastructure to meet ADA standards and ensure universal access.
Upgrades include curb improvements for code compliance, enhanced lighting, raised speed tables with integrated crosswalks, and updated landscaping. The main intersection now features a prominent crosswalk that increases visibility, moderates traffic flow, and enhances access for all users.
This project was informed by the extensive planning efforts of the Facilities Plan Phase 1 and Facilities Plan Phase 2, which emphasized supporting alternative transportation modes and improving safety for vulnerable users. Campus surveys and planning workshops highlighted the need for more accessible, comfortable transit areas. These upgrades directly address those concerns, promoting a safer, more inclusive environment for pedestrians and transit users.
