Step 1: School district approval or address verification

Follow the directions for your school district:

  • Lake Oswego, Sherwood, Tigard-Tualatin, West-Linn/Wilsonville, David Douglas
    • You will need to be approved by your school district. Talk to your high school counselor about YES to College and request district approval. If your school district does not approve you to apply to YES to College, we cannot consider your application. If you’re new to the school district in which you live, contact us and we can give you information on your district’s approval process.
  • Portland
    • You will need to verify that your address is within the PPS boundaries. We’ll need two documents that verify your address, such as rental agreements; utility bills; DMV ID; or insurance, financial, or government documents. These can be in your parent or guardian’s name.

Step 2: PCC admissions

Apply for admission to PCC: Apply as a ‘credit’ student. Make sure to get your PCC student ID number (your G number) after you complete the application. Your student ID number will be emailed to you; and you can also get it at any campus Registration window or through your MyPCC account.

Step 3: GED® orientation and placement test

Choose your campus and attend one of the GED® Orientation and Placement Testing sessions at that campus. (See the list of sessions) No appointment is necessary. Bring your PCC student ID number with you. Please arrive at least 20 minutes early for the session, and plan to stay for the entire session. If you park on campus, you will need to buy a parking permit at a Pay Station box in the parking lot.

Step 4: Complete intake process

At the end of your placement test, you will be given an appointment to complete the intake process or meet with the College Success Coach for your campus (see list below). Make sure to follow all instructions about placement testing and paperwork, including the YES to College application. If you are under 18, you’ll need to bring in a high school release form.

Step 5: Attend class

Attend your classes, and make sure to have excellent attendance. If you miss class during the first week, your spot will be given to a student on the wait list.
