Details about this class

This is a web-based course that uses components of a flipped model. Having a web-based class means that we do all of our work asynchronously online (i.e., we do not meet face-to-face or have required Zoom sessions) while the ‘flipped’ aspect of the course means that you will have mini-assessments prior to submitting your weekly discussions.

Each week follows the same schedule, and all work is done individually:

  • Thursday = a short quiz using InQuizitive
  • Friday = a main discussion post
  • Sundays = peer response and weekly written assignment

InQuizitive access comes with your textbook when you make that purchase. The book we use for this class is: Gilovich, T., Keltner, D., Chen, S., & Nisbett, R.E.. (2023). Social Psychology (6th Edition). It is available for purchase from the PCC Rock Creek bookstore. If you got a pre-owned copy that doesn't come with Inquizitive, the stand-alone Inquizitive access is available for purchase on the publisher's website (right upper corner, 'purchase options'): https://digital.wwnorton.com/socialpsych6. Lecture notes are provided for all modules :) This is a 100% web-based course so you need a solid internet connection, a computer, and some kind of word processing software (Word and Google docs both work!).

Given the 100% online nature of this web-based course it is writing intensive--it's our only way to communicate with each other. Each week the discussion has a theoretical and an applied component so that we demonstrate our understanding of key concepts and also discuss how they are (or could be) operating in our lives. **The use of AI, including tools like ChatGPT, is not permitted in the creation or development of any work for this course. All written work should be solely the product of your own efforts. Plagiarism and the use of external sources, including AI-generated content, without proper attribution will result in severe academic consequences. Learning requires your thoughts, creativity, and effort.**

I'm looking forward to getting to know you through these discussion and short assignments! :)

Technology

For this class you will need internet access to complete work in our online D2L classroom and access to Office suite (or the equivalent in Google docs) to complete the assignments and draft your discussion posts. A camera and microphone are useful for (optional) online meetings as well, but not a requirement :)

No show policy

Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class. It is important to log in as soon as the class starts to see what the participation requirements are.
