Details about this class
Welcome to PSY 202AZ!
This class is set up to be a remote hybrid format, so we will meet for class via Zoom once a week and you will have the equivalent of another class session prepared for you to do asynchronously each week. Attendance at these Zoom meetings is REQUIRED. Hopefully we will be able to find a good balance of synchronous and asynchronous learning that will meet your needs for flexibility and also some regular check in time that looks a little bit like a normal class setting.
Each week we will have class meetings scheduled on Zoom, Mondays from 9:00am-10:50am. We will utilize this time differently depending on the week, but some of the things that will be included will be lecture, small group breakout activities, deeper explanation on assignments and larger group discussion. Aside from that time, you can expect to have some asynchronous activities online. This will include videos, readings, and other activities that should be completed prior to coming to class so that you are prepared for discussion and in-class activities. You will also have regular weekly assignments and quizzes.
We will spend our first class meeting talking about all the components of class and how they will work together. This first meeting will be Monday January 4 at 9:00am. You can access our class through the Zoom link in our D2L course. Just click on the correct session and it should allow you to join. While it is not a requirement to have your camera turned on, it really helps us feel like a community if you do. I like to make Zoom as interactive as possible and really build our classroom community as much as we can like in a face-to-face class, so I would greatly appreciate it if you would give turning on your camera a try if you feel comfortable, especially during our breakout discussions. Also, it's just really nice for me to see your faces every once in a while:)
I am always happy to answer any questions you might have. If it is something course related or that you think others might have questions about, the best place to do this is in the student questions section of the discussions page, that way EVERYONE can see my response. If it is something of a more personal or specific to you nature, feel free to email me through our class list or schedule time to meet on Zoom. You can expect a lot of communication from me. I send out weekly reminders/updates, and I respond to student emails 7 days a week. As long as you stay connected and keep up, you'll do great!
We will be using the OER Psychology 2e (OpenStax) for our textbook this term. All content is pre-loaded in our D2L course shell, so there is nothing additional you need to do. This resource is free -- nothing more to purchase!
Check out this copy of a past term's syllabus Keep in mind this past syllabus is for a completely online class with no scheduled meetings so will be slightly different than our syllabus for this term (for example, we will not have online asynchronous discussions each week).
