Textbook
- The textbook you will use in this course is Civil Litigation, by Peggy Kerley, Joanne Banker Hames, J.D., and Paul A. Sukys, J.D., Ph.D. Any edition of the course text can be used (it does not have to be the current edition which, as of 2024, is the 8th edition); and
- The Oregon State Bar BarBooks will be available as an additional free resource. The Paralegal Department Chair will be emailing all Paralegal students this information early on in the term.
Presentation of this Course and Attendance
The course is completely online (i.e., asynchronous meaning no live, real-time instruction over Zoom or any other remote learning platform). Nevertheless, you are still expected "to attend class" by checking into the course at least three (3) times a week and timely completing all of your assignments by their respective deadlines (see course calendar when it becomes available for details).
Also note: PCC requires your instructor to mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week of the term (i.e., You must log in and complete any Week 1 assignments/quiz(zes) assigned to you by the end of Week 1 of the term in which you are taking this course). Your failure to participate in Week 1 of the term will result in you being automatically dropped from this class; the instructor has no discretion in this matter. As such, it is important for you to log into this course as soon as the class starts to see what is required of you to complete this course.
Technology
Since classes will be held online (i.e., asynchronous meaning that no instructor will be teaching in real-time), you will need access to a computer, tablet, or a smartphone to access the course itself, and a printer to print out any course materials.
No show policy
Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class. It is important to log in as soon as the class starts to see what the participation requirements are.
