Details about this class
This class is taught entirely online through D2L Brightspace. Each week, students will explore topics related to children’s health, growth, and development, including physical, mental, emotional, and social well-being from infancy through adolescence. The course uses free Open Educational Resources (OER), including online readings, articles, and videos. All course materials are available through D2L Brightspace, and there is no required textbook to purchase.
The course is organized into weekly modules that include readings, videos, quizzes, discussions, and assignments. Students will examine factors that influence children’s health, including family, community, environment, and the social determinants of health.
Throughout the term, students will explore a children’s health topic of interest through a series of research assignments, including research abstracts, online discussions, and a final research paper. These assignments provide opportunities to investigate current children’s health issues, evaluate research, and apply what they’ve learned.
Because this is an online course, students are expected to log in regularly, keep up with weekly coursework, and actively participate in online discussions. Staying engaged with the course materials and meeting assignment deadlines are important for success.
If you have questions about the course or whether this format will work for you, please contact me at alissa.leavitt@pcc.edu. I’m happy to help.
Note: Students must log in to D2L Brightspace on the first day of the term and begin participating in the course. Students who do not participate during the first week risk being dropped from the class, per PCC’s Grading Guidelines.
