Details about this class

This class is taught entirely online through D2L Brightspace. Each week, students will read articles, watch videos, and explore topics related to community and public health, including the social determinants of health, health disparities, disease prevention, and the role of public health in improving population health. All readings, videos, and other course materials are available through D2L Brightspace. There is no required textbook.

The course is organized into weekly modules that include readings, videos, quizzes, discussions, and assignments. Students will explore current public health issues, examine how social, environmental, and economic factors influence health, and consider strategies for improving the health of communities and populations.

Students will also complete a Public Health Summary Paper throughout the term. This assignment provides an opportunity to explore a public health issue of interest, apply course concepts, and develop research and critical thinking skills.

Because this is an online course, students are expected to log in regularly, keep up with weekly coursework, and actively participate in online discussions. Staying engaged with the course materials and meeting assignment deadlines are important for success.

Students have an option between the print version or an online, less expensive ebook. When students purchase the ebook through the PCC bookstore, they will received an email to access the book through RedShelf.

Note: eReader platforms such as VitalSource and RedShelf  require you to create an account before the activation/download process may be completed.

Returns of digital purchases are limited:

Once this title has been downloaded through the site, it is no longer refundable.
Digital purchases that have not been downloaded or accessed may be returned for 14 days from the date of purchase.
If you have questions about returns, please contact the bookstore before accessing your materials.
