Details about this class

Welcome!

ESR 141 is an introduction to individual sustainability and introduces theory, principles, and practices of sustainability and their applications at the individual scale. This course covers a wide range of topics including: ecological principles, food, water, energy, transportation, waste, and consumption. Although we will consider many theories and global issues, our focus will be on examining our own personal relationship with the environment and on finding ways to make positive change.

This remote class will meet via Zoom on Wednesdays from 10am-12:20pm. The remainder of class time will be asynchronous (watching videos and completing activities) at a time that works for you. All Zoom meetings will be recorded and, although coming to all of the live Zoom sessions is strongly encouraged, the recordings will be available if you need to miss a week. I hope that providing flexibility in how you attend class can help you succeed.

Breakout group discussions will be offered and are highly encouraged, but not required. Using cameras and microphones to ask questions and join class conversations is encouraged, but not mandatory. I want you to learn in whatever way feels best for you.

* This class is fully remote and there are no in-person meetings *

Please email me at mandy.cook@pcc.edu if you have any questions or would like more information about the class! Let's learn together!

Technology

As we are a fully remote course, use of a webcam and microphone are highly encouraged. Coursework will be completed using Microsoft Office suite, Google apps, various websites, and D2L.

No show policy

Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class. It is important to log in as soon as the class starts to see what the participation requirements are.
