Details about this class
Hi and welcome! This is vibrant exploration of fiction online that will hopefully feel more like an in-person class. We will work together as much as possible to share our exploration of fiction and how it changes, influences, and teaches us.
Please note: This class moves fast. As a 4 unit course, it could take as much as 12 hours a week. I do not accept late work because late work makes it impossible for you to be on track with your classmates. But I do love all of you, and my goal is that you get the grade you want. I offer instead what I call Grade Control.
- Everyone gets one free late. You can use that for any assignment except a draft of something you've already submitted the final version of, or replies to classmates on past discussion as they won't see them.
- I offer unlimited extra credit through the library, tutoring, or events related to our class.
- The class is graded on a 1,000 point scale, so you can miss -100 and still get an A, -200 and get a B, etc. All assignments and points are posted, so you can track and control your grade.
Technology
This is a fully online course but does require full access to digital technology, including a webcam, microphone, and speakers.
No show policy
Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class. It is important to log in as soon as the class starts to see what the participation requirements are.
Online technical requirements
Please be sure to read the quick guide to Online Learning technical requirements.
