Details about this class
You need an at-home lab kit to complete the experiments for the lab portion of this course. The lab reports will be completed online on the lab kit web site (Science Interactive, SI); a link to that site will be found in the D2L course.
There are several options for purchasing the lab kit: Buying the Lab Kit Voucher from the PCC Bookstore or directly which allows you to use your financial aid; from the vendor Science Interactive; CH 104 only or the combo kit if you plan to take CH 105 next term. Prices range from ~$200 to 350. See the Course Information module for details.
Technology
A free online text and free online homework are embedded in the D2L course.
You will be using D2L Brightspace, the imbedded WeBWorK online homework system and an outside Science Interactive (SI) web site for the lab kit experiments. In addition, you'll need:
- scientific calculator that can do exponents
- an app that can take pictures and convert them to pdf files (AdobeScan is recommended; a scanner also works).
- GoogleDocs
- word processing program. Students have access to the student version of Office 365 (add link).
No show policy
Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class. It is important to log in as soon as the class starts to see what the participation requirements are.
