Details about this class

This Practicum course requires an application. Please schedule an appointment with our ECE advisor doree.dennis@pcc.edu  or our program navigator shea.selby@pcc.edu to create an education plan and get an application In this Practicum course you will complete 9 hours per week at your child care or in home center that follows the requirements of the Practicum application. This course is online (with scheduled meetings) which are your Practicum days and times. This course has a co-requisite (ECE 130a) that is online (with scheduled meetings) that meets remotely on Thursdays from 5-6:50pm. As noted above this course requires an application process and supporting documents to complete the process: ORO step, Criminal History, Food Handlers Card and MMR record. You will work with your Mentor Teacher (that meets the requirements on the application) that will observe, meet, collaborate and evaluate you throughout the term. There are weekly Module assignments (weekly reflections form your Practicum experiences) that are due on Sunday by 11:59pm.

Here is a link to a past syllabi ECE 133 & 134_ 20927 & 20721 this may help you see the weekly themes, required readings and expectations for the course. Please know this syllabi is combined with ECE 134 (Practicum 2).

This course focuses on observation and assessment of children, their development and the classroom routines. We use observations, Mentor Teacher interviews, a developmental assessment, environmental checklist, Anti Bias checklist and the CLASS materials (required materials for ECE 130a) to reflect upon our our weekly Module (assignments). I think you will learn that these are high quality teaching strategies that are effective with all types of learners. Across the 10 weeks of the term you will be able to observe, assess and reflect upon the theories and practices you are implementing in your classroom. You will also be observing, planning for and implementing curriculum including a transition and circle time in the classroom for a total of 2 times throughout the term.
