Details about this class
Your money should support the life you want to build. In my BA 218 section, I’ll help you develop practical skills for making that happen—from managing everyday expenses and understanding credit to preparing for major purchases and planning for your future.
My approach puts the personal in personal finance. We’ll explore how habits, emotions, pressures, and goals influence your financial choices. You’ll use emotional intelligence (EQ) to better understand your money habits and develop strategies that fit your life.
You do not need an advanced math background. We’ll use practical calculations to help you compare options and make informed decisions. Through real-world examples, applied activities, reflection, and professional writing, you’ll explore budgeting, banking, borrowing, housing, insurance, taxes, investing, and retirement. You can begin putting what you learn to work while you’re taking the course.
Materials include an instructor-developed Personal Finance Playbook and Emotional Intelligence 2.0.
If you have already completed the Emotional Intelligence 2.0 assessment through another course, your workplace, or a professional setting, you do not need to purchase the book again, provided you still have access to your assessment results.
This hybrid course combines in-person learning, discussion, and activities with required online coursework in D2L. Plan to participate actively in class and set aside time each week for readings, assignments, and online activities between meetings.
Bring your questions, your goals, and a willingness to explore your habits. I’ll help you turn those starting points into steps toward a stronger financial foundation.
