Details about this class
Why take Introduction to Business (BA 101Z) with Dr. Hohn?
This class is built to introduce you to key business ideas and connect them to your own strengths and goals.
Hybrid format (how the class works)
We’ll meet once a week in person on campus for discussion, activities, and Q&A. The other half of the class happens online in D2L, where you’ll find weekly modules, assignments, and grades. Plan to check D2L at least twice a week and follow the weekly checklist so you don’t fall behind.
Strengths-centered learning
You’ll use a strengths-based approach to discover and apply your natural talents in a business context. The goal is to help you see how who you are can be an asset in future jobs, entrepreneurship, or whatever path you choose.
Real-world focus
I draw on my background in product design, marketing, training, and development to connect the textbook to real workplace situations. You’ll learn the basics of business and how they show up in actual organizations.
Supportive, goal-oriented environment
Whether you’re curious about business, exploring majors, or already have a career direction, we’ll work together to connect course topics to your interests and goals. You can expect a respectful, strengths-focused classroom where questions are welcome and your contributions matter.
The required textbook is Exploring Business by Karen Collins, which is under $40 and includes free homework access.
I’m Dr. Michael Hohn, and I teach from a strengths-based perspective. I focus on what you already do well and how to build from there. I’m looking forward to meeting you and seeing how you use this class as a step toward your future.
