Details about this class
This is an Online class with no meetings.
This class is an excellent opportunity to explore anthropology's holistic, multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary, and applied applications. We center humans as a part of nature (not apart from it) and we'll use this lens to explore:
- The development of human cultural theory.
- The application of anthropology's theories and methods to help enhance students' understanding of complex cultural issues.
- The methods anthropologists use to engage with and learn from the communities we serve.
- Survey cultural universals like language, governance, gender, race and ethnicity, kinship and marriage, spiritual belief systems, and change.
Learning assignments include weekly process journal entries, reading applied anthropology literature to perform independent research and to participate in class discussions (written), annotating content using collaborative software, and opportunities to practice engaging and adopting a disciplinary lexicon.
In addition to the OER listed above, other readings will be used throughout the term to complete a few assignments (but are not listed here; please contact me directly if you need early access for DS accommodations). They are also open access.
