Details about this class
If you are thinking of registering for my class but have any concerns that are not addressed here, feel free to email me; I would be happy to answer any questions.

See https://www.pcc.edu/staff/morgan-chase/ for more information about me and how I operate.
Our class meetings will be held remotely using Zoom; you are not required to have a camera or microphone on during our class meetings, except during the two exams, when I need to be able to watch and hear you. A big part of the Math 58 & 98 sequence is students working together in small groups during our class meetings. You are expected to attend the class meetings regularly and contribute productively to your group's work. However, the class meetings will be recorded and you may watch the recordings for partial attendance credit if you miss class: 90% for the first missed class, 80% for the second missed class, and so on from there.
Proctored Exams: The exams in this class will be done at home with me watching you on camera using Zoom.
- Exam 1 is scheduled for Wednesday, July 22, from approximately 6:05 - 8:05 PM.
- Exam 2 is scheduled for Wednesday, August 26, from approximately 6:05 - 8:05 PM.
If you have an unavoidable scheduling conflict, please contact me as soon as possible. Alternative testing arrangements can be made for in-person, computer-based proctoring at a testing center given adequate notice and depending on testing center capacity and availability. Scheduling appointments with a testing center and communicating with the instructor is the responsibility of the student, as well as paying any associated fees with using a non-PCC testing center.
If you have accommodations through Accessible Ed & Disability Resources at PCC, please contact me so we can discuss your specific accommodations and how I can best support you.
If you have any questions or concerns about proctored exams, please feel free to contact me.
Technology
You MUST have an ALEKS account to do the online homework and quizzes, which will cost around $100 if you don't already have a paid ALEKS account (perhaps from Math 58).
You will need to be able to scan papers or take pictures of them and combine the images into a single PDF file; I recommend the free scanning app Adobe Scan.
To take the exams at home, you will need the following:
- a computer or laptop, NOT a tablet or iPad
- a stable internet connection that can submit a video feed while you are logged into D2L and Zoom simultaneously
- either a detachable webcam or a second device (such as a smartphone) that can act as a video camera while you are logged into Zoom
No show policy
Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class.
Students with disabilities
Students with disabilities should notify their instructor if accommodations are needed to take this class. For information about technologies that help people with disabilities taking Online based classes please visit the Disability Services website.
