Details about this class
This is an online, asynchronous course. There are no required class meetings either remotely or in-person. Note that for Week One you will be required to submit certain items to remain in the course. Failure to do so may result in being administratively withdrawn from the course, per PCC policy.
This course introduces students to the fundamental features and functions of Microsoft Word used in academic, professional, and business environments. Students will learn how to create, edit, format, save, and print professional business documents such as letters, reports, resumes, flyers, meeting agendas, and business correspondence.
Topics covered in the course include basic document creation and management; text editing; font and paragraph formatting; margins and page layout; tabs and indents; bullets and numbering; headers and footers; page numbering; tables; graphics and images; spelling and grammar tools; copy and paste functions; document views; and printing options. Students will also learn how to apply styles and themes, use templates, and create visually professional documents that follow standard business formatting practices.
Emphasis will be placed on accuracy, organization, professional appearance, and efficient document production using Microsoft Word.
Course outcomes will be achieved through instructor demonstration videos, hands-on practice activities, online lectures, discussion participation, assignments, and applied business document projects.
Technology
Course materials, quizzes, etc., will be in Desire2Learn (D2L). D2L can be accessed through the Quick Links section on the MyPCC Home Page. Alternate login is at online.pcc.edu using your MyPCC Username and Password.
Software:
- Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint (2007 or newer; 2019 or 2021 Preferred). "Office 365 Education" can be downloaded for free using your PCC e-mail address. Please note that you must use the downloaded version of Word, NOT the online version.
- Adobe Reader or PDF Viewer
No show policy
Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class. It is important to log in as soon as the class starts to see what the participation requirements are.
