Details about this class

Hello!

I'm glad you're interested in taking Art 214: History of Graphic Design with me this term. In this course, we'll start all the way back with the advent of the printing press and move up into contemporary design. All along, we'll be thinking about how design and technology intersect, as well as how graphic design impacts how we experience the world.

The class is structured around weekly content modules and learning activities include discussion posts, short interpretive essays, creative assignments, and quizzes.

There is no required textbook to purchase for this class. All readings, articles, and videos will be provided in the weekly modules. You can check out a SAMPLE syllabus from a previous quarter here: Art 214 Sample Syllabus. (Our syllabus will look a little different, but this will hopefully give you a general feel.)

This is an asynchronous completely online class that does not meet on Zoom and has no (remote or in person) class meetings.

I have also prepared a "liquid syllabus" with our Health & Wellness statement, a brief course overview, some more info about me, and a Week 1 Success Kit. You can access the liquid syllabus at this link: ART 214 Liquid Syllabus.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions about the course. I'm happy to help!
