Details about this class

Welcome! Poetry 243 and 245 serve both beginner and experienced poets. We will create a welcoming environment to appreciate and practice writing and reading poetry as well as learn about the basic structural elements of the craft. We will have an optional live reading at the end of the quarter!

Please note: once a week courses move fast, so instead of late work, I accept partially completed work on time, and I offer unlimited extra credit so you can control your grade. The course is on a 1000 point scale, meaning everyone can miss 100 and still get an A, 200 and still get a B, etc.

WELCOME!

Technology

This is a remote online hybrid course, meaning we have regular weekly Zoom meetings. A computer, internet, camera, and microphone are all required.  I am sorry the registration language is so confusing, but we meet Wed evenings in Zoom, from 6-8:50PM. Lecture, writing, and workshopping will happen in Zooms, so those meetings are required.

No show policy

Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class. It is important to log in as soon as the class starts to see what the participation requirements are.

Online technical requirements

Please be sure to read the quick guide to Online Learning technical requirements.
