Details about this class
My name is Karah, and this is my fifth year teaching writing at PCC. As an instructor, I believe that writing is a skill anyone can improve with practice.
In this composition course, we'll focus on the writing process—drafting, getting feedback, and reflecting on our efforts. You'll complete essays in three different genres: analytical, persuasive, and reflective. You'll also learn how to find trustworthy sources and conduct research.
We'll use a contract grading system in this course, which means you won't get a letter grade on each individual assignment. Instead, you'll get a final letter grade based on completing a certain number of assignments throughout the quarter. You can read through the syllabus and course calendar for some more information about the grading system and what to expect in this course. (It's likely I'll change a few things about the syllabus before class begins, but this Doc is a good starting point.)
If you have questions for me about WR 122, feel free to reach out!
Technology
You'll need some type of word processor (Microsoft Word, Google Docs, Pages, etc.) to complete your assignments. You'll also need reliable Internet access and some kind of device (computer, phone, tablet) to join our weekly Zoom sessions. A webcam and microphone are optional, but useful.
No show policy
Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class. It is important to log in as soon as the class starts to see what the participation requirements are.
