Details about this class
How can you be successful in Writing 115?
Remember, you already have the talents you need for this class:
- you know how to persuade
- you know how to take a side in an argument
- you know how to organize ideas by what matters most to you
- you know how to perform “information literacy” tasks (searching on the Internet, evaluating what you find there)
- you know how to recognize someone’s tone of voice
Trust yourself
- Choose topics to write about that interest and motivate you
- Know that you do not have to work alone; you can write to or talk with me or a tutor or a classmate. You can get research help from a librarian.
- Remember that getting started is the hardest part for ALL of us, and once you get started, momentum will carry you forward
- The most important tool you have is your ability to be self-motivated and disciplined, as the course moves quickly.
Technology
Please get familiar with the use of Google Documents, especially the Share and Comment features. We will use Google Documents to collaborate, read, and write together.
This class is fully on line. In April and again in June, I will require that you meet with me for a brief conference via Zoom or Google meets at a time we both agree on.
Writing 115 on-line is not an easy class. The most important tool you have is your ability to be self-motivated and disciplined, as the course moves quickly. If you know you are more successful in an in-person class, this is not the right modality for you.
No show policy
Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class. It is important to log in as soon as the class starts to see what the participation requirements are.
