Details about this class
Welcome! We meet via Zoom for live teaching and collaborative work on Tuesday nights from 6-7:50pm; however, if you can't make this time, there will be a recorded video to watch by the end of the week.
This Writing 115 offers students broad preparation for using writing in service of student success at PCC and elsewhere. This course provides many supported opportunities for practice in reading of diverse fiction and non-fiction texts, locating information, exploring ideas, and writing to learn and improve skill.
You'll practice writing often and produce revised, final draft copy, including at least one essay that incorporates source materials and employs MLA citation conventions.
Students will be able to work through multiple drafts of several pieces of writing with time to separate the acts of writing and revising as well as be provided ample support in the form of writing conferences with your instructor as well as Reading and Writing Center tutoring.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of Writing 115 with a C or better, students will be able to:
- ADAPT: Read and compose texts for different purposes.
- INQUIRE: Locate information that will help them in their thinking.
- CONNECT: Convey and support a perspective.
- REFLECT: Analyze their own learning in writing.
Prerequisites: (Placement into WR 115 or completion of WR 90 or ESOL 262) and (placement into RD 115 or completion of RD 90 or ESOL 260). Audit available.
