Details about this class

Welcome! Thanks for being interested in this class.

In this class we'll be studying how our brains work, and learning how we can cultivate certain habits to become better readers and thinkers. We'll also be thinking a lot about community and relationships between people. We will read Tommy Orange's "There There," a novel with a bunch of characters converging at a powwow in Oakland, California. It's a dynamic, shocking, fantastic book and past students have loved it. We'll also do a research project based on the book, which will help us investigate something we're curious about and become experts in. Past students have done reports on everything from 3D printing to gun control to graffiti art.

I have been teaching at PCC for seven years. I am also a writer. In my spare time, you can find me reading novels, working in my garden, or escaping to the forest. I use she/her/hers and they/them pronouns and I invite you to share your pronouns with me.
