Details about this class

The only text that you will need is accessible through the PCC Library website.  We find it in the GaleEbooks section, and it is titled World Religions Reference Library.  We will be reading only a few parts of this rich resource, though you are certainly free to read much beyond the required pages!

Religious Traditions Covered:

  • Indigenous traditions from several continents
  • Hinduism
  • Chinese traditions (Confucianism & Daoism)
  • Buddhism
  • Judaism
  • Christianity
  • Islam
  • Several "Alternative Paths" (including Scientology, Baha'i, etc.)

You are required to keep a weekly Journal on the readings as well as current events relevant to World Religious Traditions.

There will be a required weekly Discussion Forum.

Finally, there is a required Field Trip and then a follow-up presentation — You are to experience a service or ceremony that is new to you, reflect on it in relation to what you are learning through the course content, and then share your experiences and what you learned about religion generally as a result.

Technology

There is no additional technology required for this class.

No show policy

Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class. It is important to log in as soon as the class starts to see what the participation requirements are.
