Details about this class

Hello and welcome!

I'm Dr. Kelsey Kelley, and I'm so glad you're interested in my Human Development course! ☺️

Development is my specialty and absolute favorite topic to teach because it applies so directly to all of our lives and gives us a chance to explore big questions: Are we born with a sense of right or wrong? What determines our personalities? How do I know which parenting advice articles to trust? If any of these questions interest you, I hope to see you this term!

Do I need to buy anything to take this class?

No! This course uses 100% free, open-access materials. Online readings will be provided within D2L in place of an expensive, traditional textbook.

Is this course "in-person" or "online"?

This class is a hybrid of these two modalities. This means it is not completely asynchronous, and there is a required in-person meeting every Tuesday from 10 - 11:50 a.m. at PCC's Rock Creek Campus. However, instead of meeting twice a week like a typical remote course, we meet just that once each week on Tuesdays. This doesn't mean we only cover half the material though! To replace a second weekly meeting, you'll be actively practicing and applying the concepts we learn each week through more independent, self-directed online work (typically, a brief quiz and assignment submitted weekly to D2L) in addition to assigned readings.

So do I have to attend in-person meetings?

In-person sessions will be important to your success on class assessments, like exams. Regular attendance is expected and logged, though attendance does not contribute directly to your final grade. While an absence here or there is understandable (life happens!), if you know you will not be able to attend class regularly you would be better served by a fully asynchronous online course.

More questions?

Please don't hesitate to reach out to me - I am happy to clarify anything and hope to see you this term!
