Details about this class

Welcome to Introduction to Psychology, Part 1. I hope students will find this course to be engaging, applicable, thought-provoking, and fun! We will use real-life clinical examples to make the lecture material come to life and students will have many opportunities to connect with their classmates throughout the semester.

PSY 201A will provide an overview of the field of psychology with particular attention to sociocultural perspectives, research methods, biological psychology, consciousness (including sleep and psychoactive drugs), sensation and perception, learning, memory, and human development. Check out the CCOG page for a more comprehensive overview of the course.

This course has several different graded assignments including written signature assignment papers (required as the course meets General Education requirements), quizzes, and in-class activities. All class materials will be posted within the D2L Brightspace platform.

This class meets remotely via Zoom on Wednesday evenings.  It is expected that students attend all class meetings with their computer cameras on, as attendance and participation is a major part of one’s grade. Students will be expected to complete 2-3 hours of weekly assignments outside of class time as well. Attendance on the first day of the course is required in order to stay enrolled in the course.

Please reach out with any questions you may have regarding the class!

Technology

Students must be able to attend a Zoom lecture with their cameras on to be counted as present.

No show policy

Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class. It is important to log in as soon as the class starts to see what the participation requirements are.
