Our Course

In our course we are going to dive into psychology, the study of the human brain and behavior. We'll be learning about how we conduct psychological research, biopsychology, learning, memory, cognition, human development, and more! In particular, we will be diving into common psychological myths, and you will tackle one of these myths of your own!

Our course is hybrid (in-person AND online) and meets one time per week on Southeast campus (Monday's 2:00pm-3:50pm). While attendance is expected, I know that life happens! In anticipation of this, there are make-up assignments you may complete to earn back the points from missed classes.

Assessments

You will complete weekly online quizzes, in-person group activities, and paper assignments! In response to pre-recorded lecture videos, you will submit short lecture responses each week.

In recognition of our busy lives and life in the time of COVID-19, all late assignments will be accepted without penalty for 3-days after the due date, no questions asked! I am always open to extensions and encourage you to reach out for questions, help, or requests. In class, you will be working with a team to complete activities and quizzes. Be sure to communicate with your team when you miss class to get caught up :)

I look forward to getting to know you all!

*There is no required textbook, we will be using the following open access textbook. All other readings and videos will be provided on D2L.

Last But Not Least!

While learning about our course will help you decide if this class is for you (which I hope it is), I wanted to share a bit about myself! My name is Sarah Wheat, and I've lived in 8 states including Oregon, New Mexico, Florida, and West Virginia! My master's degree is in Social Psychology (Ball State University) and my bachelor's degree is in Psychology with a Theatre minor (Briar Cliff University). My specific areas of social psychological focus are ambivalent sexism, sexuality education, and the psychology of prejudice. I have two rabbits and love to travel, read and hike! I am always available to chat about those things as well as everything to do with psychology.

Technology

Our course is hybrid! This means that we will meet in-person once a week on SE campus, Monday's from 2:00pm-3:50pm. You will also have additional content and assignments to complete outside of class through D2L. This means that you'll need a stable internet connection to communicate with your instructor and potentially other classmates outside of class time. Please let me know when you have issues with technologies!

No show policy

Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class. It is important to log in as soon as the class starts to see what the participation requirements are.
