MUC102 Contemporary Music Theory II

Covers music theory as exhibited in contemporary musical styles such as jazz, blues, rock, hip hop, funk, electronic dance music, folk, etc. Includes harmonic function, 12-bar blues, non-chord tones, asymmetrical meter, modes, and applied (secondary dominant-functioning) chords. Includes basic music analysis focusing on diatonic and chromatic harmonies, lead sheet notation, and Roman numerals. Includes written composition. This is the second course in a three-course sequence. Prerequisite: MUC 101 or instructor permission. Audit available. (See course content and outcomes.)
