Details about this class

Hi and thanks for checking this page! This is an online, asynchronous course with 2 virtually proctored exams required. All Math and Stat classes have proctored exam requirements.

Please look for the course notes packet at the bookstore. I will also send you the PDF if you prefer to print it yourself or through the Multnomah County Library for free.

There will be two proctored exams on Zoom with me. Please read the Student Guide to Virtually Proctored Exams. If you prefer to take your tests in person you may take them at a PCC testing center or a testing center at a college or university near you. There may be a fee to take it at a testing center outside of PCC.

  • Midterm Exam: Thursday, May 2, 6-7:50 pm OR Friday, May 3, 10-11:50 am
  • Final Exam: Tuesday, June 11th, 6-7:50 pm OR Wednesday, June 12th, 10-11:50 am
  • Make-up times on Zoom or in person will be available through the testing center.

There are no weekly class meetings but I am here to help you during Zoom office hours, by phone, text, help forums and email. My goal is to make statistics fun, relevant and interesting with a social justice focus. There are lecture videos with fill-in notes, labs with real data, online homework and a take-home quiz each week, a midterm and a final.

The book is free online and all the apps we use are free. We will look at aspects of social justice through the data sets in the course. You can get a feel for my style of teaching through videos, old syllabi and previous course materials at https://www.caraleemath.com/. Feel free to email me with any questions at cara.lee@pcc.edu.

Technology

Access to a printer is helpful but not required. You can buy all the pages needed from the bookstore. There will be video lectures with fill-in notes. We will use many free online stats simulators and calculators that are required. I will show you how to use all of these in the class videos.

No show policy

Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class. It is important to log in as soon as the class starts to see what the participation requirements are.

Online & Remote Teaching Technical Requirements

Please be sure to read the quick guide to Online Learning technical requirements.
