Details about this class
Welcome to MM250 Advance Multimedia Project Development, everyone!
Course OverviewMM250 is a culminating capstone course intended for students who are ready to plan, produce, and complete a fully realized multimedia project. The course marks the completion of the Multimedia/VPEM degree or pathway certificate, with an emphasis on professional-level production, accessibility, and presentation.
In this course, students research, plan, pitch, and create an original multimedia project aligned with their professional interests. Projects may take many forms, including video, animation, interactive media, web-based experiences, or hybrid formats, but all projects must result in a finished, audience-facing multimedia experience that clearly demonstrates multimedia design, storytelling, technical execution, and accessibility.
Building on the program’s focus on industry standards, the course integrates UX/UI thinking as part of multimedia production, focusing on how users encounter, navigate, and understand media. Students consider structure, flow, clarity, and accessibility as part of their creative and technical decision-making. This approach supports narrative, design-driven, and experience-based projects and reflects current professional expectations.
MM250 is delivered online through D2L and does not have a regularly scheduled class meeting. Weekly modules guide students through structured milestones such as project initiation, planning, prototyping, peer review, iteration, and final production. Optional weekly drop-in sessions are offered for connection, questions, feedback, and dedicated time to work on course modules or capstone projects with instructor support.
Students complete a polished, portfolio-ready capstone project by the end of the term. Projects may build upon work started in a previous course, provided the capstone represents substantial new development and is fully completed during the term.
Projects are expected to showcase multimedia skills at the certificate or degree level, including design, composition, interaction, and technical execution. As a capstone experience, the course focuses on applying and integrating skills developed throughout the program rather than introducing new technical instruction.
Technology
Equipment and software needs vary depending on the type of capstone project you are producing. Students are responsible for ensuring they have access to the tools needed to complete their chosen project.
If you need gear to help you create your project, there are a few options available:
-
PCC Library Equipment Checkout
A limited number of computers and cameras are available for checkout through the PCC Library:
https://www.pcc.edu/library/equipment-for-checkout/ -
Open Signal (Community Media Center)
Students may also choose to become members/producers at Open Signal, where cameras, recorders, and other production equipment are available for checkout:
https://community.opensignalpdx.org/forms/inquiry-form
Participation may also provide opportunities to showcase completed projects on their cable channel and online streaming platform.
If you do not have access to a sufficiently powerful computer, the Multimedia Department provides access to Mac labs at the Cascade Campus during open lab hours. Please contact the department for current lab schedules and access information.
No show policy
Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class. It is important to log in as soon as the class starts to see what the participation requirements are.
