Rhythm, Rhyme, Revolution: Creating Hip Hop

Campus contacts

Join MC Mic Crenshaw, poet, producer, and cultural activist, to explore how rhythmic communication can shape powerful messages. Explore the evolution of hip hop, rap, spoken word and other forms, and write your own. Includes venue tour and ticket for a hip hop showcase.

These art forms can convey who we are, what our purpose is and how we experience the communities and worlds we inhabit. We examine how they utilize the time and space of a beat, rhythm, voices, words and language to say something original, memorable and transformative. For the middle class session of class you'll tour the Patricia Reser Center for the Arts (including backstage), and attend 503 Rising, a hip hop showcase curated and hosted by instructor Mic Crenshaw.
