Details about this class

The purpose of this course is to develop an understanding of Earth's climate system and climate change, including historical perspectives. My goal by the end of the course is to transform each student into a "climate literate citizen", one who understands the major principles and processes of Earth's climate system, can assess scientifically credible information about climate, and is able to make informed and responsible decisions with regard to actions that may affect climate.

Basic course information:

Make sure you have access to the E-Book through the library! (Paper copies might be available for purchase through the bookstore, however supplies are limited).

Weekly tasks & assignments include: Lecture videos (YouTube), textbook readings, online discussions, Labs and quizzes. Students who have the best success in this course tend to block out time each week for these tasks, take notes while watching videos and stay in contact with me (Gretchen) when they have questions and come to weekly Q & A office hours or set up one on one meetings when needed.

Technology

Reliable internet is very important to your success in this course as quizzes, discussions and lab documents are all provided through the course D2L Brightspace page.

All course documents will be provided via google docs, google sheets or pdfs. Lecture videos are typically on youtube, discussion articles are web-based or videos.

Students will be asked to work with documents and upload assignments to the assignment dropboxes in D2L.

The technical requirements for most online classes include access to a computer with a modern operating system and a supported web browser. This course requires weekly labs which are difficult to complete on smartphones as they are documents to type into each week.

No show policy

Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class. It is important to log in as soon as the class starts to see what the participation requirements are.
