Scandinavian Dances

Campus contacts

Learn graceful dances of Scandinavia, accompanied by folk tunes. First hour is a step-by-step lesson, followed by an hour of open dancing. New and continuing students welcome. No need to bring a partner. Wear non-marking dance shoes.

Dances from all five Nordic countries are taught, from beginning to more advanced levels by instructors who have been teaching and dancing for many years. We are inclusive and believe in community. Those enrolled during previous terms will continue to build their Scandinavian dance skills and repertoire. Less experienced dancers will quickly enjoy simple dances through step-by-step instruction and, if needed, one-on-one attention to bring them up to speed. The frequent rotation of partners encourages the making of new friends and adjusting to and accommodating individual tendencies. Open dancing is often done to live, authentic folk music, with recorded folk music periodically played. Held in the Great Hall of the exquisitely crafted Northwest Nordic Center. Flowing, poetic dances of continuous movement offer low-impact, joyful exercise.
