Intro to Nonfiction Comics and Nonfiction Graphic Novels
Historical overview with discussions of artists, characters, works and genres. Published works may address themes of diversity, violence and sexuality. Class includes readings, discussion, prompts, comics exercises and feedback.
Familiarity with comics/graphic novels and their basic formats is recommended. Interest and/or experience with drawing and creative writing is encouraged. A class for students and artists interested in the history of nonfiction themes in graphic novels and comics as well as the creative process behind comics and graphic novels that explore themes such as memoir, reportage, history, biography, science, medicine, etc.
