Details about this class
Note that section 20575 is an ONLINE course delivered through BrightSpace D2L.
Online courses take a little more disicipline to succeed.
Since we have no meeting times, you will need to be organized and tackle the weekly readings and assignments and turn them in to get the most out of the course.
Technology
- You will need a computer with a microphone and speakers (or a headset) and a webcam so you can use Zoom, watch Youtube videos, and possibly run virtual computers using a graphical user interface over the internet.
- You will need an internet connection with enough bandwidth to use Zoom, watch videos, and occasionally download Linux DVD images.
- You will need a computer that can be used for a Linux operating system. This may simply be a Windows or Apple computer with enough free space to install virtualization software like VirtualBox to use for you Linux operating system. You will need at least 2 GB of RAM and 10 GB of disk to run the Linux OS. More is better. It is also acceptable to use a dedicated Linux computer.
- A couple unused USB thumb drives are recommended as well.
- All software used in this course is Open Source and is freely downloadable over the internet and may be kept and used for as long as you like.

No show policy
Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class. It is important to log in as soon as the class starts to see what the participation requirements are.

Online Prerequisite | Start Guide for Online Learning
Before you take your first online class at PCC, you must complete the start guide for online learning. The start guide will help you decide if online classes are right for you. Once you complete the start guide, you will be eligible to register for online classes.
The Start Guide is not required for Remote classes but strongly recommended.
