Details about this class

Course Format: Hybrid & Flipped

This section of CH151 uses a Hybrid, Flipped model. This is designed to maximize your hands-on learning time.

  • Hybrid: We mix online study with on-campus application.

  • Flipped: You are "introduced" to the chemistry at home, and you "practice" the chemistry in class with my help.

Your Weekly Rhythm

  1. At Home (Flexible Time): You will watch interactive lecture videos and complete introductory study before we meet.

  2. On Campus (Fridays): We meet at the Sylvania Campus to apply what you’ve learned through problem-solving, group work, and experiments.

Required In-Person Schedule (Fridays)

Attendance at both sessions is mandatory to register for this course.

  • Lecture & Active Practice: 9:00 AM – 10:50 AM

    • Focus: Q&A, small group problem-solving, and solidifying difficult concepts.

    • Assessments: All exams (midterm & final) and quizzes happen during this time.

  • Laboratory: 11:30 AM – 2:20 PM

    • Focus: Hands-on experiments. There are no remote labs for this course.

Course Materials: Modified MasteringChemistry (MMC)
  • Do NOT purchase materials yet. Wait until the first day of class.

  • Do NOT buy access codes from Amazon or other third-party sites. Those codes will not work for this specific PCC course, and you will lose your money.

How we will handle it:  You will get a free 2-week temporary access code at the beginnig of term. This includes the e-textbook access. You can use this while you settle into the course and determine the best purchase option for your budget. The MMC/textbook are available directly from the publisher at a lower price than the bookstore.
