Details about this class

This is a fully online and asynchronous course with lectures, quizzes, homework, and the final exam all online. You will be required to watch the weekly lecture videos, read the slides/book sections and complete the weekly assignments, at your own convenient times. The online office hours will be available to answer your questions.  You are not required to attend the online office hours if you do not have any questions.

For this online chemistry class, you will be doing the labs at home using a purchased lab kit. This is the only way we are able to offer you the class as an online option.  We will send you the link to purchase the specific lab kit for this particular course shortly before the class starts.  The lab kit costs approximately $190 + shipping.

Students will also receive the detailed purchasing information on the textbook/homework online access code, shortly before the class starts.

This course requires about 15 hours of your time each week to do well. This is similar to being on campus in lecture for 4 hours per week and lab for another 3 hours, then the outside of class and lab work adds another hour at home per hour on campus.

The class may be cross-listed with another CH104 class to ensure the consistent coverage of the Chemistry materials.

Please contact the instructor if you have any questions.

Technology

Students are expected to have a reliable internet connection. You will be required to watch the content videos on your own time.  You will need to be able to submit the assignment documents online in a pdf or word doc.  You will be required to upload lab photos of each week's lab setup and of yourself working on the lab ("selfies").

No show policy

Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class. It is important to log in as soon as the class starts to see what the participation requirements are.
