Hello!
Here are a few notes to help familiarize you with the class;
- The goal of the class is to develop the skills required to effectively speak, write, listen, and interact in a business environment by understanding communication concepts and applying current technology.
- Everyone will be assigned to a cohort during the first week of class. You will work with your cohort on a series of virtual group assignments during weeks, 4 & 5 of the term. In addition, you will only be required to read and reply to members of your cohort on class discussions and other activities during the term.
- During the term, you will be using your PCC Student Zoom Virtual account. You will need to have a working camera and microphone for your computer.
- The title, edition, and author of the textbook for the course is; Excellence in Business Communication, 13th edition, Thill; A digital or hard-copy version of the textbook is acceptable. It is highly recommended that all students have a copy of the textbook available to ensure the richest learning experience. MyBCommLab is not required for this class.
I believe you will find this class to be one of the more enriching and engaging business classes you will take at Portland Community College. Whether you are taking this class as a degree requirement or you are pursuing a degree in business, there will be something for you in this class.

No show policy
Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class. It is important to log in as soon as the class starts to see what the participation requirements are.

Online Prerequisite | Start Guide for Online Learning
Before you take your first online class at PCC, you must complete the start guide for online learning. The start guide will help you decide if online classes are right for you. Once you complete the start guide, you will be eligible to register for online classes.
The Start Guide is not required for Remote classes but strongly recommended.
