ART299 Intro to Animation

Introduces the basic terminology, concepts, and principles of analog and digital animation. Explores the complexities surrounding animation by examining each segment individually and reinforcing it with in-class workshops, daily assignments, readings, screenings, and critiques. Considers the historical evolution of animation, how the ideology of animation informs one’s practice, and the art of narrative. Encourages experimentation with drawing, painting, sculpture, and video as a means of contextualizing their animations. Develops an understanding of what animation is, its history, and how to create art using software such as Pencil 2d, Krita, Blender, and Adobe. Fosters a community where individuals can help each other grow as aspiring artist and animators. Prerequisites: ART 131A, ART 181A, ART 237A, ART 284A, or ART 293A.
