Details about this class

This is a class for beginning and intermediate painters which covers basic issues of color mixing and composition. You will be assigned one painting one painting per week, though reworking paintings is highly encouraged to achieve an A. Thematic subjects (landscape, portrait, animals, still life, night scenes, interiors) are assigned to address basic skill sets such as figure/ground relationships, color vibrancy, dramatic lighting, and ways to create space using dark and light or color.  Paint the world around you using bad photos you take translated through various languages of painting and learn how to work expressively from a photo. It is my goal that by the end of the course you have the means to paint any subject on your own for the rest of your life.

This is a remote, synchronous class where live participation for 4 hours/week is a requirement. There is an additional online component with the expectation of 1-2 hours/ week involving discussions about painting.

Technology

You will need to be able to participate in all Zoom sessions with microphone and camera with good WIFI in a quiet place where you can focus on your work. You will also need to be able to document and digitally edit all paintings and drawings submitted for assignments in this course.

No show policy

Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class. It is important to log in as soon as the class starts to see what the participation requirements are.
