Dear Students, 

I'm really looking forward to learning with you this Spring Term.  Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns-- or just to say "hi" before the term start.  I'm here to help!  amy.boehnke@pcc.edu.

Getting Started:

  1. Here's a short welcome video you can watch.
  2. You will have access to our class in D2L as soon as you have registered for the class.  You can start working on the "Steps to Getting Started" as soon as you are registered.  
  3. Our class starts on Monday, April 1.  
  4. Please complete the "Steps to Getting Started" section by Tuesday, April 2.

  7. Please sign up for a CASAS Reading Assessment before the term start.  Follow these directions.  

Overview of our Class:

  1. Course materials and lessons will be in D2L, PCC's online learning platform as well as CommonLit, our reading website. 
  2. Each Monday morning at 7:00 a.m., I will release the new weekly content.  We have 11 weeks of class this term. 
  3. You should plan your schedule to include at least 6 hours a week to complete the work.
  4. You can access the content in D2L and CommonLit 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, so you can work through the lessons when it works with your schedule. 
  5. I will be available during the week to assess your work, give feedback, answer questions, and support you.  
  6. Throughout the term, you can schedule individual meetings with me (on Zoom or on the phone) when you need help or support.   

Financial Supports for students with consistent attendance, participation, and a CASAS Reading Assessment: 

  1. free GED practice tests
  2. GED Flash testing study program
  3. GED Testing Scholarships
  4. $800 GED College Tuition Scholarship to help students start their college programs at PCC.  
  5. I will provide more information about eligibility when we begin our work together this winter.
  6. Students who complete their GED are eligible for Oregon Promise, Oregon Promise is a state grant that helps to cover tuition costs at any Oregon community college for recent high school graduates and GED® test graduates. Students must apply during their senior year or immediately after GED® test completion. Find your deadline here.

Technology

There is no additional technology needed for this course. 

No show policy

Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class. It is important to log in as soon as the class starts to see what the participation requirements are.

Online Prerequisite | Start Guide for Online Learning

Before you take your first online class at PCC, you must complete the start guide for online learning. The start guide will help you decide if online classes are right for you. Once you complete the start guide, you will be eligible to register for online classes.

The Start Guide is not required for Remote classes but strongly recommended.
