Details about this class
This is an Online Class with Meetings - this means that we meet weekly on Wednesdays from 11 am to 12:50 pm in ZOOM.
I am extremely thrilled to meet you and to be teaching this course. Despite being wholly asynchronous, our class will be packed full of community-building. Together, we will navigate anti-oppression language that'll help make some sense of society, awe-inspiring concepts, ruthless characters, soul-searching, passionate stories, generational joy and a capacity to advocate for all humans' rights to live authentic, freely-chosen lives.
The curriculum is grounded in critical theories and praxis -- intersectionality, anti-racist (CRT), and critical feminist, Indigenous, immigrant and disability frameworks. Assignments include reflection on several intersectional issues, weekly process journal assignments, crowd-sourcing data and collaboratively problem-solving some pressing issues, and communicating using solidarity and justice language.
You are not alone on this journey...together we will create and protect a space that lessens the burdens of conventional dominant society. Our practice will focus on safe, respectful, brave, innovative, and curious engagement.
Technology
Content is free - an open-access text and other open access or publicly available media (documentaries, articles, and reports).
You will need to:
- maintain your PCC Gmail account
- operate Web browsing software
- operate windows based software packages
- access PCC Google Drive and Acrobat programs (.docx, PDF's)
- keep notes (using paper, electronic devises, Disability Services, etc.)
- use a reliable electronic device (PC, Smart Phone, Laptop, etc.) outfitted with a camera and microphone
- access to reliable Internet/wifi
If you do not have regular access to a personal computer or smart device, contact the college and they will help you with this! Please email me with any questions!
No show policy
Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class. It is important to log in as soon as the class starts to see what the participation requirements are.
