Old Songs For All Voices: Traditional Folk Singing

Raise your voice and join the chorus with folk songs of Appalachia, Scotland, Ireland, and beyond. Explore each song's history and remember that singing is about participation, not performance. All songs taught by ear. All levels welcome.

Meant for group singing, these songs feature short choruses, repeating tags or simple harmonies. We'll trace the history and origin of each song, discussing the stories and traditions contained in each. Students will come away from this class with a robust repertoire ready for any pub sing or sea chantey singalong, a greater understanding of folk music history, and the connective experience of singing together.
