Introduction to Old-Time Ballad Singing
Sing unaccompanied old-time ballads in the Appalachian tradition. We listen and learn songs line by line, not by reading music. Dig into the songs' histories, practice singing them together, and as soloists. Everybody is welcome.
If you enjoy listening to and singing old time, bluegrass music, and Applachian ballads, this class is for you! You will come away with 6 - 8 old time songs to sing a cappella. Listen to a variety of singers' approaches to a given song and practice singing the ornamentation and vocal styles in the old-time tradition. When you are comfortable with a song, you may try it solo if you'd like.
