Details about this class

This is a beginner class to learn to play guitar and read music on the guitar.  We will cover learning to read music, fingerpicking, chord strumming, and some practical music theory.

You should plan to practice a minimum of 20-30 minutes every day.

You will need to have a guitar for this class.  Any type of guitar can work, but I highly recommend a classical (nylon string) guitar.   Classical and some flamenco guitar techniques are taught. The coursework is broken up into weekly modules with weekly quizzes and assignments to help you to learn better.

You will need to have a functioning camera and microphone to submit your weekly assignments.

The class begins with classical guitar technique, standard notation, and finger-picking.  It later moves to tablature, chords, and strumming.  You can transfer this class to other schools, such as Portland State University.

About me

I love learning about the world!

I lived in Spain for much of my life, so I speak Spanish fluently.

As a child, I lived in the south of England (Sussex).

I am one of a very few female flamenco guitarists, though I also teach folk, classical, and beginning guitar!

I am also a licensed Suzuki Guitar instructor and teach ages 5 - 100+

Everywhere around the world, humans make and play amazing music!  Just like you!

Welcome!

Technology

A guitar and a camera with a microphone are required for this class.  Each week, you will record a video of your playing so that I can better assess your progress.

You should plan to practice a minimum of 20-30 minutes every single day.

No show policy

Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class. It is important to log in as soon as the class starts to see what the participation requirements are.
