Details about this class

Welcome! This is a open source class so you won't need to buy ANYTHING. Instead of tests and quizzes, we have group and individual work that allows you to explore the magic of fiction. You will read a wide mix of authors and styles, becoming more aware of how fiction is crafted, and how it shapes us a readers.

While I don't allow late work as I truly believe it hurts you to be scrambling behind, I grade on a 1,000 pt scale (you can miss 100 points and get an A, 200 and get a B, etc), offer one free late, and unlimited extra credit. Anyone and everyone can succeed here, and belongs here, and is honored here.

Technology

We will meet in person on Tuesdays from 2-3:50 in Mt Scott 205, but that is only 25% of the overall class. The rest you do online on your own, so please have access to a computer, wireless, and speaker. Having a mic is also helpful but not required.

Above all, be sure you have TIME! Classes like these require self discipline and organization. Make time during the week to do the reading and writing and thinking required in order to both learn and enjoy the material.

No show policy

Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class. It is important to log in as soon as the class starts to see what the participation requirements are.
