Scandinavian Social Dance
Learn the poetic, graceful dances of Scandinavia, accompanied by the lively, lyrical folk tunes that sprang up alongside them. We go step by step. First hour is a lesson, followed by an hour of open dancing. All levels and backgrounds welcome.
Classes start with simple couple dances, like the Schottische, Snoa and Rheinlander, and build skills for more advance dances like the energetic Rors Pols and the always-favorite Hambo. There is always time for easy circle dances to bring everyone together. As the season progresses, dances unique to specific Scandinavian villages give understanding and appreciation of the rich folk tradition of the different countries. Nearly all class nights feature live music by an ensemble with traditional instruments. Most of our Norske Runddansere instructors have been dancing and teaching Scandinavian dances for over 30 years. They have studied these authentic folk dances in Scandinavia and in workshops throughout this country. They diligently plan their teaching schedule for the term to ensure interesting, fun and easily-taught dances are scheduled.
