Details about this class
Hello! I hope you consider taking Human Trafficking online course this Fall term. This online course introduces human trafficking and the impact on society through control, manipulation and exploitation of victims for financial gain. Covers special interviewing techniques for victims considering their vulnerabilities. Introduces methods of investigation that help lead to successful prosecution of those involved in compelling victims into prostitution. Recommend: WR 121. Audit available.
Intended outcomes for the course include:
- Identify red flags that could signal trafficking.
- Utilize best practices in working with survivors.
- Identify resources available to survivors.
- Articulate how oppression contributes to trafficking.
Each week we will be exploring the following topics:
- Week 1: Introduction to Human Trafficking
- Week 2: Neurobiology of Trauma + Vicarious Trauma
- Week 3: Root Causes
- Week 4: Media and Culture
- Week 5: Research Project Outline
- Week 6: Survivors
- Week 7: Red Flags/Working with survivors
- Week 8: Power and Control Dynamics
- Week 9: Law Enforcement
- Week 10: Resources
- Week 11: Final Research Project
