Details about this class

  1. There will be regular office hours every week.  Students are encouraged to have regular contact the instructor via Zoom or email, but that is not required.  However, a short one-on-one on-line introductory meeting may be required.  If required, you may schedule this to fit your personal schedule.
  2. Your instructor believes people learn best from experience.  Thus, the weekly labs or assignments are the core of this class and must be turned in to get a good grade in this class.

Technology

  1. You will need a computer with speakers (or a headset) to watch Youtube videos, and possibly run virtual computers using a graphical user interface over the internet.
  2. You will need an internet connection with enough bandwidth to watch videos, and occasionally download Linux DVD images.
  3. You will need a computer that can run multiple virtualized Linux operating systems simultaneously through software such as VirtualBox.
  4. All software used in this course is Open Source and is freely downloadable over the internet and may be kept and used for as long as you like.

No show policy

Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class. It is important to log in as soon as the class starts to see what the participation requirements are.
