Details about this class
This course introduces the design, uses, and terminology of a database management system. Course work includes data modeling using Entity Relationship modeling tools, normalization rules, relational database terminology, and program/query development using Structured Query Language (SQL).
Technology
- Desire2Learn is accessed via the Internet, so you will need a web browser such as Chrome, Safari, Firefox, etc.
- Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat Reader (free from Adobe).
- Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) will be used for queries against databases stored on PCC's server. Windows users can download SSMS from Microsoft. Mac/Linux users can use DataGrip (free student license via JetBrains).
- File formats used in and by this class include .doc, .html, .pdf, .ppt, .rtf, .sql, and .txt.
No show policy
Your instructor can mark you as a "no show" if you do not participate in your class during the first week. This will remove you from the class. It is important to log in as soon as the class starts to see what the participation requirements are.
